Coffee Connexion

Coffee Connexion started brewing high quality coffee beans in July 1990 at their coffeehouse in Tahoe City, CA.  Established by Jeff and Robin Dworkin, the new coffeehouse had one of the first espresso machines at the lake and served gourmet baked goods and sandwiches.

In 1996, after six years of buying various green beans from suppliers in Southern California, Jeff and  Robin decided to buy their own roaster. Jeff travelled to Corvallis, Oregon in the fall of 1996 and bought their fluid bed roaster from Mike Sivetz of Sivetz Coffee Co.  After learning the fine art of roasting from Gavina Bros. in Los Angeles, Jeff began purchasing green beans from Royal Coffee in Emeryville, CA.  Roasting in Lake Forest, the Coffee Connexion Roastery was born.  Through local friends and connexions, they soon had a solid foundation of wholesale customers, many of which are with them to this day. Sadly, Jeff passed away in 2001 but Robin continues the legacy with the help of her two children, Jen and Jake.

ABOUT

The Tahoe House Bakery and Gourmet is one of the last true “Mom and Pop” operations around. In May of 1977, Peter and Helen Vogt moved to Lake Tahoe with their two little girls and opened the Tahoe House Restaurant. In the beginning, The Tahoe house served dinner only. They were open from 5 pm every day. Peter, who is a Swiss trained chef, oversaw the kitchen, while Helen managed the dining room and was the hostess who greeted one and all at the front door. Peter and Helen are originally from Switzerland and brought with them a love of European Style breads and pastries. In the early 1980’s, the lack of availability of quality breads and cakes prompted Peter to begin baking. He experimented with many of his favorite recipes and developed a dessert cart full of cakes and freshly baked bread. Many of these creations are still available today.
